I found this to be a great read. I have been a DM for many years and just in the last week or so i have started teaching two of my long term players how to DM themselves, and will be showing them this as a teaching tool. Also I will show them and remark how true it is, and truly annoying they can be as players, Hahahaha.

I find that it is really the DM's job to make a world, to make what is around the players, not to force them through hops preplanned out. My players love freedom, and when not given freedom they constantly shatter my plans, and foil the plot.... makes me sound like a super villain, haha.

This may be the hand-wringing liberal in me, but I think a balance of the two is necessary. You need enough of the cliche to hook in the reader/player but not so much that they feel complacent about the story.

Originality is obviously a must in any story; if you have nothing original to say, why bother? However, familiarity makes the introduction of the original easier.

I once ran a fantasy PBP about an AU New York City that had a demography of vampires, demons, ghosts, zombies, shamans, and more, unknown to most regular humans. It required a lot of time and writing, and looking back I'm sad that I let it die after one setback.

I've wanted to start a new game similar to it for years, but I just don't have the time to put the effort into it that it requires right now. I'm hoping to one day have that time again. In the meantime, the memories are so tempting and sweet.

Interesting; a creative writing class I took recently encouraged us to steer clear of cliches because they are boring to the reader. I am usually attracted to things that are less cliche and more original.

It would definitely be interesting to test the results between the two different approaches and see what we come up with!

Hi Yimi

Thanks for the feedback! The aim of this site is to provide some detailed articles regarding video games, table-top games and fantasy writing in general but we are just getting started up. Perhaps in the future we'll get some comics going.

I hope you enjoy what we are putting out there, even if it is a lot of text!
